THE
HEB.4:12
WHAT IS THE
?

The BLADE is named after Hebrews 4:12, which states in part that the Word of God is “sharper than any two-edged sword.” With Scripture as the foundation, the BLADE desires to sharpen the mind to defend the truth and to proclaim the truth by serving the church and building the scholar. In other words, the BLADE exists to promote intellectual engagement in academic circles and in the local church. To accomplish this task, the BLADE seeks to provide theological and philosophical resources to help cultivate the mind in defending and proclaiming Christian truth.

The BLADE was begun by Christians who have roots in the Restoration Movement, a Christian movement that began in the early 19th century with Thomas Campbell (1763-1854) and Alexander Campbell (1788-1866) recognized as its founders. The BLADE, however, is not limited to working within the Restoration Movement; it seeks to defend and declare Christian truth alongside all Bible-believing Christians. Some may understand the BLADE as evangelical.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The following statement of faith is adapted from the National Association of Evangelicals’ Statement of Faith. A few minor additions and changes have been made to the original.

1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, inerrant, authoritative Word of God as defined by the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy.

2. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His maleness, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His substitutionary atoning and propitious death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

4. We believe that salvation is found only in Jesus Christ, and that for this salvation of lost and sinful people to be effectual, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

6. We believe in God’s calling of both men and women to serve God’s church as taught in Scripture, which is best understood and articulated by the Danver’s Statement on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood.

7. We believe in the resurrection of the both the saved and the lost; they who are saved unto the resurrection of life and they who are lost unto the resurrection of eternal damnation in a literal hell.

8. We believe there is only one church of the Lord Jesus Christ, and thus there is spiritual unity among all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
